How HIFU works:

A beam of ultrasonic energy is delivered into the support structures around the vagina (fascia, muscles and connective tissue.) This stimulates the body’s natural regeneration process leading to cell renewal and increased collagen and elastin production. This strengthens and tightens the tissues and thickens the lining of the vagina (mucosal layer.)

Risks:

The only side-effects found with vaginal HIFU are minor redness or swelling that settles within hours, or some temporary tingling sensation after treatment.

What to expect:

You'll book your free, no-obligation introductory phone call to discuss if vaginal HIFU is right for you. We’ll discuss your main areas of concern, relevant medical history, and answer any questions. If you wish to move forward, you can book your home treatment.
At your visit, you’ll confirm and sign your medical history and consent forms, and we’ll address any outstanding questions. You will make yourself comfortable on the bed or couch, with a drape for privacy. You are welcome to have a support person present if you wish.
When you are ready, the vaginal probe is gently inserted. The HIFU is delivered at two target depths. You will feel some tingling and warmth, but it should not be painful. The level of energy can be adjusted according to your comfort. The appointment is usually completed within 30-45minutes.
After treatment you may have some redness or swelling, or a tingling sensation, which should resolve within a few hours. You should be comfortable and able to resume normal activities immediately.
Individual results vary: many women feel results after the first treatment, but two or three treatments (spaced at least a month apart) are recommended for optimal results. Results are not guaranteed.   Effects are expected to last for roughly a year and then may start to fade. Maintenance treatments can be planned every 6-12 months or as needed.

What HIFU can’t do:

It’s important to have realistic expectations for your treatment. HIFU will not alter the shape or size of the vaginal or labia. It cannot put the tissues and organs involved in Pelvic Organ Prolapse back in their original position, although it may improve symptoms.
Surgical interventions remodel the structures of the vagina. HIFU simply reinforces and supports what is already there.
